Recreational
Teams registering at the recreational skill level should be comprised primarily of players who are new to the game or are returning to the game after a prolonged absence. The average player on a recreational team will have a basic understanding and ability of the skills involved, but may have not had much practice actually playing. Players may have little or no knowledge of the rules (but will be required to learn the Urban Rec Okanagan version of the rules for the sport they are registering for).
Intermediate
Teams registering at the intermediate level will on average be comprised of players who have played at least 2-3 years of organized playing in that sport within the last 10 years. The average player will be competent at most of the basic skills involved in playing at an intermediate level. Players will have a basic knowledge of general rules for their sport (but will be required to learn the Urban Rec Okanagan version of the rules for the sport they are registering for).
Competitive
Teams registering at the competitive level will be comprised of players who have played at an organized level of that sport for more than 5 years within the past 10 years, or who still retain the skills from playing competitive organized levels of that sport previously in their lives. Players at this level will be more than competent at all fundamental skills, and should have the ability to completely avoid physical contact with lesser skilled players. Players at this level will be familiar with basic strategy and have a strong knowledge of the rules (but will be required to learn the Urban Rec Okanagan version of the rules for the sport they are registering for). The utilization of questionable tactics that involve gamesmanship is prohibited from Urban Rec Okanagan leagues. Urban Rec Okanagan leagues are self-officiated, meaning that players should err on the side of good sportsmanship to govern their behaviour on and off the playing surface when at Urban Rec Okanagan leagues.
Please note for all skill levels
For all skill levels, the goal of playing in the league is to have fun and play sports. Good sportsmanship is essential, and open communication and camaraderie between teams is encouraged.
To reiterate from above, the utilization of questionable tactics that involve gamesmanship is prohibited from Urban Rec Okanagan leagues. Urban Rec Okanagan leagues are self-officiated, meaning that players should err on the side of good sportsmanship to govern their behaviour on and off the playing surface when at Urban Rec Okanagan leagues.
Teams that place competitiveness above good sportsmanship are NOT encouraged to register for Urban Rec Okanagan, and teams that engage in such behaviour may be suspended or expelled from Urban Rec Okanagan leagues.
