McCulloch Coed 4's Beach Vball Thursdays Rules

Coed 4’s RULES AND GUIDELINES

  1. Teams will only call fouls committed by their own players.  Players will not call the fouls against their opponents.  If there is a dispute on a call, re-serve the play. Contact an event coordinator for clarification of rules after the match is completed.

  2. There are NO court position restrictions or requirements in 4’s beach volleyball, but service rotation must remain the same throughout a single game.  e.g.: players can stay in the same court position an entire game (at the net/back row etc.), but each player MUST serve in the same service rotation for the entire game.

  3. All players will conduct themselves in a polite and sportsmanlike manner. Individuals who do not abide by these criteria will face disciplinary action and risk being removed from the league.

  4. All balls must be hit cleanly. No scooping or carrying the ball. Only off of a driven ball may a ball be double hit (ie. off arm and head in one continuous motion).

  5. Contact with the net in any way constitutes loss of point. Crossing under the net in any way also constitutes loss of the point.

  6. A served ball may not be blocked, spiked or volleyed directly back over the net.

  7. A served ball may be received by volleying the ball, provided it is not volleyed directly back over the net (i.e. the ball may be volleyed to another member of the receiving team).

  8. A block or partial block does not count as one of a team’s 3 hits.

  9. The ball can hit any part of the body.

  10. No open-handed tipping:  Players who contact the ball with one hand and are putting the ball over the net must cleanly hit with the heel or palm of hand (a roll shot), with straight, locked fingers and a locked wrist (a cobra), knurled fingers (a camel toe), or with the back of the hand (locked wrist and locked fingers/knuckles.   One handed placement or redirection of the ball with the fingers (dink or open-handed tip) is a fault.

  11. If a player is going to 'set' into the opponent's court, the player must contact the ball with 2 hands above the shoulders and it must be set directly forward or backward in relation to the player's body.  NO DUMPING!  This applies even if it is the team’s 3rd hit.

  12. Both teams are responsible for recording matches won/lost and UR Fun points and submitting the score sheets to the on site Event Coordinator – Failure to do so will result in an the team being assigned zero points and zero wins.

  13. Coed 4’s - There must be at least 2 pet gender on the court at all times. A team with only 1 of a gender cannot substitute another gender for the missing player (they must play with only 3 players).  If a team has none of a gender, they default the game.  If a team has only three players, but two females, then there is no penalty other than the fact that they must play with only 3 players.

  14. Regular play (weeks 1-7) will consist of 3 matches. Best 2 of 3 (25/25/15) Games are all rally point, win by 2 points, cap at 27 (cap at 17 in the 3rd match.  Matches will be over when a team wins 2 games or time expires.  If time expires (signified by the whistle blowing) while teams are playing in the 3rd game, at least 1 of the teams must have at least 5 points for the game to count.  If neither team has at least 5 points, then the game does not count in the match results, and the match is reported as a 1-1 draw.

  15.  If time expires while teams are playing the 3rd game (the tiebreaker), at least one of the teams must have reached 5 points for the 3rd game to count.  Otherwise the match will be reported as a 1-game-apiece draw.

  16. Team standings will be based on sets won/lost, not matches (although you will have more sets in the win column if you win more matches, obviously).   Tiebreakers in the standings will be points (2 points for each set won), wins, fewer losses, UR fun points, then head-to-head record.

URO Policies

  1. Game times start at on the hour sharp! (Check your schedule), please be at the courts 10 minutes before the start of your game.

  1. Teams that cannot field a team with 10 minutes of their start time will automatically forfeit the game. At the time it is encouraged that the teams mix the teams and play a fun game. Players who arrive late are allowed to play; however, the forfeit will not be reversed once a team has enough players to field a team.

  1. To be eligible to play in any Urban Rec league all players must have signed an online waiver. Players that do not sign an online waiver will not be issue membership cards and will not be allowed to play. Teams that do not fill out the online team rosters by the end of week 2 will be removed from the schedule until they do so and all players have signed the waiver.

  1. Playoffs Eligibility – all players must have played a minimum of 2 games over the regular season to be eligible to play in the playoffs. A team using an ineligible player will automatically forfeit the game. If a player shows up that is not on the team roster they will not be allowed to play regardless if they played or subbed during the regular season. All players must be on the roster even if they are subs.

  1. All players should bring a dark shirt and a light shirt to all games. No grey.  Teams should decide, prior to the start of the game, one team is dark and the other light.

  1. The first incident of any rough or physically unsafe play will result in a verbal warning by the Event Coordinator. The second incident will result in a five-minute benching for the offending player. The third incident will result in that player’s IMMEDIATE EXPULSION from the game.  In this case, the team captain will be responsible for ensuring that his/her player leaves the premises. The EC’s decision will be final, and there will be no questioning the EC’s decision.  If the player refuses to sit out or leave the premises if asked to do so, the game will not re-start until that player complies.  If, in the EC’s opinion, the player takes too much time to comply, the offending player’s team will default the game (no matter what the current score is), and the opposing team will receive a 1-0 victory in the standings.

  1. If two or more teams are tied in the standings at season’s end, the first tie-breaker will be the team with more wins.  The second tie-breaker will be the team with more UR fun points.  The 3rd tie-breaker will be head-to-head record against the other team(s) involved in the tie. If necessary, the 4th tiebreaker will be point differential (points for minus points against) for the entire season.

  1. If you feel that a team is not calling their own fouls or is playing unsportsmanlike, at the next stoppage in play the team captains and EC and ONLY the team captains and EC, should have a discussion about the issue and attempt to resolve them.  In the event that a situation is unresolved, team captains are required to report the incident by e-mailing the Urban Rec offices for follow up.
